Online Celebrities
Morning/Afternoon/Evening,
Ok so I recently discovered I got few supporters across the globe and not just UK which I'm awe in! Thank you for supporting me from which ever country your a citizen in :)
Caution: This maybe long but worth the read (I hope!)
So my title of this blog pretty much gives away what I want to discuss, as a business owner it's important to advice and share information to others who may look to do exactly what you want to do, today I want to advice to not only upcoming photographers/mua's/models but as an individual.
We all love a bit of online networking right? I mean meeting inspirational people that you haven't seen on the red carpet, magazine or tv! People you see so many people love yet their just normal like us right? I absolutely love this! I'll be honest before Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Pintrest I use to rely on magazines to get inspirations for weddings. I always go to events specially wedding events and gosh I get inspiration from there to, but like Alice (from Alice in the Wonderland) I fell into the rabbit hole and discovered a new world the social networking world where you feel like you know someone because you talk via comments, when you banter with those who don't take it seriously, when you secretly screen shot an image so you can re-do it at a wedding or suggest it to a family member etc... This is all fine WHEN used within limits.
Before it was all about networking etc but now I just see so much hatred, 'fake accounts', competitions on how many followers, etc It's like woah take a chill pill. Seriously if your life revolves around social network websites then that's fine but don't put others down because they don't have 'k' followers.
This is happening too much within the MUA sector, I usually wouldn't be bothered but now that I have a make-up business my eyes are opening up even more to this industry and it sometimes disgusts me to be part of it wish there was a different rabbit hole for people who just want to explore their passion and make it far in life on actual clients & money not just '100+ like' 10k+ 'followers' '1500 Friends'
Look on my FB page an image I post up only gets 25likes or even 1 like I'm not going to shun down another photographer who has 30likes or 5 more than me...
Or even my IG I've got what 2k followers but what am I doing on that? Honestly I can have -100 today I won't be crying about it nor will I let the world know that "Damn I lost 100 followers" things happen move on.
You all need to get your priorities straight honestly, some people have these pages just to explore their inner passion, its not always about a business maybe their going through a tough time and online is the only place they get respect doesn't mean you should make them feel bad. Or even if you yourself going through a tough time and online is your power don't misuse it by dissing someone who has less power than you.
I'm actually sick and tired of people putting others down because of their numbers on their profile, before we use to judge someone on the way they came across in real life, the way they spoke, their manners now look? I don't have the 'k' I'm suddenly lower than you? I'm sure somewhere at Oxford Street tube station someone has 150k followers, do I have to bow down to them? Hell to the no!!
However if you are looking to start a business or freelance from your IG page please be professional at all times and being professional doesn't mean being strict it means always be polite and if anyone wants to discuss anything talk via email/phone/skype etc Remember people won't use your service if you come across a rude/immature person. Honestly I wouldn't use some MUA's just because I have seen then talk bad abut their clients whats to say they won't do the same to me...
Just because loads of MUA gets free products from companies doesn't mean their hi-fly ok. I get loads of jewels and clothes from businesses but am I better than someone like CMLeung because he doesn't get it? (Not that I know if he does or not =| ) No. It doesn't prove anything, his work is amazing regardless if he gets freebies or not. Yes it's a great way of marketing like really great way, I've got few bookings through big MUA's that have used my service but only due to my service not because of my followers.
Regards to my previous post 'competition', some people have directly told me that "oh this photographer has 5k followers and you only have 2k, your work mustn't be good" I am actually not kidding when I mean I rolled on the bed and laughed out loud. Firstly if I follow 5k people I am sure I will have 5k followers too (What do they say on profiles 'follow me I'll follow you back, unfollow I got the app' and my work isn't based on followers it's based more on the quality of my work, the story behind it, the hard work put into it. If you can't value that and value my numbers of followers then I truly don't deserve to be your photographer. Also if I wasn't doing 'good' I wouldn't have a studio nor 2 more business (May sound big headed I promise I only say this when I get comments like this)
Online bullying is something we don't take it seriously till someone kills themselves right? Suddenly then the world is concerned about that person who is no more and shouts at those who have made them do this but guess what we are just as bad as those who directly bullied them. You wanna know why? Because were silent and we didn't speak up.
This is me speaking up, yes I am a Photographer, yes I have Business and a Reputation yes I have an image however that is nothing to me when it's the cost of saving a life.
I have few friends who have gone through this personally and it annoys me to know that honestly nothing gets done about it but actually it's us who don't do anything about it. We just 'report' the to the social network website but that's it... We can do more (Below will be details)
My advice to everyone will be:
-Always appreciate what you have even if it's a small amount it may get you far trust me
-Never put anyone down, if you really think something is bad privately message them I'm sure they'd love feedback I know I do!
-Don't get big headed (Maybe once in a while like me... LOL)
-Learn to take compliments, even though I'm bad at this I'm slowly starting
-Learn to take criticism as well, even though I disagree with publicly saying it, it's better if they email/text it but learn to take it, it will only make you stronger in the long run
-Appreciate other people and the fact they take time out to comment/like and support you as an individual
-Always and I mean always be NICE
Social Networks is the way forward for many people and I will always recommend it as I haven't had personal nor professional issues however I will advice to use other form of marketing. If you want advice please email me on: hello@thatpersonalphotographer.com

Save all evidence you have of the bullying. If you have nasty emails or things posted on your profile save them to your machine so you can use it as proof. Save texts or voicemails that say anything horrible. Learn how to block the bully on IM or delete them from your contacts.
Try not to reply or retaliate to things they say or do; it might make the situation worse. If you don’t respond, they are more likely to get bored and move on.
If you are being bothered via text, contact your service provider. Each network has a special area for this sort of problem. Check out their website or call them for advice or a free number change.
